One of Creative's considerations when designing the Organizer view in MediaSource
was to help those users who have collected huge music libraries to find an individual
song, hidden among thousands of others, very quickly.
Music Library Search Engine
The Find feature will retrieve the relevant songs, in seconds, by inputting
a simple keyword or two. For example, if you want to look for a song entitled
Space Between, just type "Space" in the Find textbox
and any song that contains the word space in its title, artist, genre
or album field will be displayed.
Tri-filters
The find feature helps if you already know what to look for. But if
you are just browsing through your music library, the tri-filter feature
provides a more user-friendly and efficient way to browse. It works by filtering
out the Genre, Artist, Albums you do not want to view, a stage at a time.
- To open the tri-filter window, click on the icon, located just right
of the Find textbox and the filter window will be displayed. You can
choose to display 1,2 or 3 filters by clicking the down arrow. (See picture
below)
- If you want to look for some Funk music. Click Funk in the
Genre filter window, and only the Funk artists and albums will be displayed
in the main track window. To narrow the display further, you can select a particular
funk artist, say "Dave Matthews Band". You will then see all the tracks
by "Dave Matthews Band" in the main track window.
- If you proceed downwards to select a particular album, the main track window
will be updated and will display only the tracks from the selected album
- This feature is only available in the PC Music Library view and requires
your songs to be imported into the PC Music Library with correct & valid
tag information.
If you want to:
-listen only to new songs added in the last month
-listen to your favourite tracks
-listen to tracks that you haven't heard in a while
-fit exactly 1 hour of music onto a device
-listen only to songs whose tempo is 95bpm (beats per minute)
Smart Playlist makes all the above scenarios simple to handle! It remembers
how often you play a song and when you last played it and allows you to give
each song a rating. This information along with the genre, artist and album
data allows Smart Playlist to automatically generate playlists that match your
exact requirements (such as your favorite songs, recently-added songs, unheard
songs, old favorites, etc)
You can also auto generate playlists that based on tempo (i.e. how fast or
slow a song is). For instance, you can automatically generate "1
hr of your favorite dance music" or "all songs whose tempo is
95bpm". To achieve this the Music Analyzer utility need to perform
a once-over analysis of all your songs for tempo information and dependant
on the size of your library and the speed of your machine this could take
anything from a few minutes to a few hours. To analyze your songs go to
the Tools menu and select Analyze Music.
There are two pre-requisites before Smart Playlist can work:
- You need to import all your music files into the PC Music Library.
- Metadata such as Genre, Artist, Album, My ratings and Tempo
should be present and correct.
To start you off, Creative MediaSource has included 12 default Smart
Playlist Presets:
For example, if you click on New - Songs added in the past month,
all the songs you've just added in the past month will appear. If you try
this again one and a half months later, you should see only the latest additions.
